Jesus teaches how to receive the Holy Spirit
Lk. 11:5-13 Jesus teaches his followers to be persistent in prayer. He tells a story about a man whose neighbour provides him with a loaf of bread – even though it is in the middle of the night – because he has been bold enough to ask him. “So I tell you”, Jesus says, when you pray to God, “ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you… If your children ask for a fish, which of you would give them a snake instead? … How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:9, 11 & 13)
"He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
Teaching about worries and cares
Lk. 12:22-34 Jesus teaches that God will provide for all his followers’ needs. “So I tell you, don’t worry about the food you need to live, or about the clothes you need for your body…Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest… but God feeds them. … Consider how the lilies grow; they don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers.” (Luke 12:22, 24 & 27) (see 1 Kings 10:18-25). Instead, Jesus says, you should pray for the things that really matter in life. “But seek God’s kingdom, and all the other things you need will be given to you” (Luke 12:31).
