Haggai 1:3-11 Haggai speaks the word of the LORD, and urges the leaders to start rebuilding the Temple:
"Is it right for you to be living in fancy houses while the Temple is still in ruins?... Go up to the mountains, bring back wood and build the Temple." (Haggai 1:4 & 8)
Haggai 1:12-13 The people listen to Haggai and start rebuilding the Temple on the 24th day of the 6th month of the 2nd year of Darius's reign.

Haggai 2:1-9 The LORD encourages the people to keep building:
"In a short time I will once again shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all the nations, and they will bring their wealth. Then I will fill this Temple with glory." (Haggai 2:6-7)
“The new Temple will be greater than the one before... And in this place I will give peace.” (Haggai 2:9)
Haggai 2:10-14 Haggai consults the priests about the defilement of offerings to the LORD if the person making the offering has touched a dead body and has therefore become ritually 'unclean'.
Haggai 2:15-23 The LORD promises to bless Zerubbabel and the people as they complete the foundation of the new Temple:
"I will make you important like my signet ring, because I have chosen you." (Haggai 2:23)
