9 Jan. Jesus announces a 'kairos moment'
"After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, preaching the Good News from God."
"He said, 'The right time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Change your hearts and lives and believe the Good News!'"
(Mark 1:14-15)
A short passage today, but absolutely profound.
You could easily miss these words of Jesus while rushing through the whole of Chapter 1 of Mark's gospel; but you'd be missing a gem! You'd be missing Jesus's announcement of a 'kairos moment'!
Jesus arrived in Galilee during the autumn of 27AD. He told the crowds, "The right time has come. The Kingdom of God is near. Change your hearts and lives and believe the Good News." (Mark 1:15)
In this way, Jesus announced a 'kairos moment' - the 'right time' - God's appointed time (the Greek word 'kairos' literally means 'an opportune moment').
So many Christians are looking too far ahead! They're looking towards a time in the future when Jesus will come again to a renewed 'heaven-on-earth'; or they're concentrating too hard on what will happen when they die (don't worry - God's got it all planned!)
But what they don't realise is that the Kingdom of God is already coming! Jesus announced the start of the kingdom, and as more and more people allow God to rule in their lives as king, the kingdom of God is growing here on earth.
So don't keep waiting... Seize the day and make the most of the 'kairos moment' announced by Jesus.
What are you going to do to extend the kingdom of God in YOUR area TODAY?? Spend a few moments thinking and praying about it!
